If you’re looking for a cheap and efficient hybrid car that’s also roomy and well-equipped, the Corolla Hybrid is a solid option.
For 2023, Toyota revises the Corolla Hybrid considerably, both cosmetically and mechanically. The joys of driving a Toyota Corolla Hybrid are more intellectual than physical, although the car now offers all-wheel drive!
The new all-wheel-drive Corolla Hybrid is tempting to contemplate even if the front-drive model remains on the market. The all-wheel-drive hybrid has the same top speed as the front-wheel-drive version despite having an additional motor on the back axle. Every one of them has a net power output of 134 hp and a torque output of 156 lb-ft.
Interior Design
The 2023 Toyota Corolla does not include any particularly radical redesigns. But they aren’t meant to be, either; they are the kinds of targeted improvements that keep customers coming back even as they move this best-selling sedan ahead.
There are also new headlights and a new Toyota Audio Multimedia system with a touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, and smartphone app integration.
18-inch alloy wheels come standard on the SE and XSE, while 16-inch steel wheels come standard on the LE, which also comes with just enough extras to make it enjoyable. The new Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite is an addition to Toyota’s active safety features for the Corolla.
Technology
The 2023 Toyota Corolla does not include any particularly radical redesigns. But they aren’t meant to be, either; they are the kinds of targeted improvements that keep customers coming back even as they move this best-selling sedan ahead.
Other than the volume knob, the 2023 Corolla Hybrid does away with all tactile controls for the infotainment system. The new infotainment interface does away with the traditional home screen in favour of a row of icons down the left side of the screen.
In addition, Toyota’s new cloud-based navigation subscription is available for all trims at $19.95 per month; however, only the top two trims receive a free 3-year trial.
Storage Space
When it comes to cabin volume, the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid ranks highly. The Corolla Hybrid has the same amount of space for 8 carry-on bags as a number of other similarly priced vehicles on the market, according to a test conducted by caranddriver.com. The outcome is shown down below.
Ride Quality
We have not yet had the opportunity to test the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid with its updated hybrid drivetrain.
In 2023, all-wheel drive will be available as an exciting new option. Sadly, testing cannot take place just now since Toyota has not yet distributed them.
But it should be built on the great-driving, easy-driving characteristics of the older versions that have been available since 2020.
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid will have more horsepower, but its fuel efficiency will probably vary as a result. The Corolla Hybrid will have an enhanced all-weather grip thanks to the new AWD option. Drivers in wintry climes may appreciate this function.
Horsepower Comparison
The maximum power for the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is expected to be 134 hp on some models. If additional power is desired, the sedan model will provide it with almost 30 more horses.
Resell Value
Some used Corolla Hybrids are going for more than a new one would cost currently in the used car market. Though this trend is unlikely to persist until the auto industry’s inventory problem is fixed, the 2023 Corolla Hybrid will maintain a healthy resale value for the foreseeable future.
Gas Consumption
The gas consumption rating for each 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Configuration is measured by Natural Resources Canada. Before putting a car through its paces at the lab, it logs around 6,000 kilometres in real-world conditions. The chassis dynamometer, which resembles a treadmill, is then used to put the car through its paces.
The test is conducted in a facility designed to account for the vehicle’s mass and the effects of wind on its speed. In order to simulate city and highway driving, a series of pre-planned driving cycles are used to put the vehicle through its paces.
City Driving Comparison
A vehicle’s fuel efficiency is the ratio of its distance travelled to its fuel use per unit of time. The quantity of gasoline needed to travel a certain distance, or the distance covered per litre of fuel used, are both useful measures of consumption.
City fuel economy for the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is estimated at 4.4 L/100 km for the LE FWD, 4.6L/100km for the LE AWD, and 5.0L/100km for the SE/XSE. This is an improved rating compared to the Corolla gas model, which is rating at 7.6-7.9 L/100km.
Highway Driving Comparison
Some cars are easier on the gas tank, especially when driven mostly on the highway. Longer journeys tend to have a combination of highway and rural road driving, which is reflected in the highway gas consumption rating.
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid has a highway fuel economy of 5.0 L/100 km for the LE FWD, 5.4L/100km for the LE AWD, and 5.7L/100km for the SE/XSE. It may be surprising that this rating is quite close to the gas model Corolla, since hybrid engines are not heavily used at highway speed.
Combined Comparison
The Combined Gas Consumption Rating represents 55% city driving and 45% highway driving. Both city and highway ratings are used to determine this rating, which is then rounded off.
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid has a combined fuel economy of 4.7 L/100 km for the LE FWD, 4.9 L/100km for the LE AWD, and 5.3 L/100km for the SE / XSE. It is already one of the lowest-rated vehicles on the Toyota lineup.
Drive Range Comparison
To calculate how far each car can generally travel on a single tank of gas, we did some math with the City/Highway combined gas consumption rating and the tank capacity. Actual results may be different depending on factors such as driver style, road conditions, and the weather.
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid estimated drive range per tank is 755 km for the AWD version. You will get a higher drive range with the FWD version, which averages 878 km in our estimation.
Cost Per Fill-up Comparison
Since gas prices fluctuate frequently, the total cost of each fill-up may vary widely. We have an approximate cost per fill-up based on current market prices.
Based on our estimate, the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid has an average fill-up cost between $78-84.
Annual Fuel Cost Comparison
The cost of fuel on an annual basis can give you a good estimate of what you could expect to spend. This figure is derived using the average annual kilometres driven by British Columbians in This Study and the average price per gallon of gasoline in the province. While it may not be an exact reflection of your actual driving habits, it can nonetheless help you estimate costs.
The annual fuel cost that we came to with our estimated usage and gas cost for the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is $1,251-1,353/year.
Lease or Finance Payment Estimate
We have created the estimated monthly payment at varying rate levels so you can evaluate the impact of an increase or decrease in the lease and finance rate each month. You can expect each 2023 Corolla Hybrid configuration to offer a monthly payment number between the range shown below.
The data was compiled using the payment calculator on Toyota Canada’s website. The ‘includes Taxes, Levies, Freight & PDI’ was selected and an $800 document fee was added to ensure accuracy. Document fees can be different at each dealership, you should verify the exact amount at your nearest dealership.
5-Year Lease at varying rates
2-Year Lease at varying rates
7-Year Finance at varying rates
3-Year Finance at varying rates
