With the 2023 model year marking the beginning of the sixth generation of the CR-V, Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ontario will become the primary production plant for the CR-V in North America. The CR-V Hybrid is one such vehicle that will soon be sold for the first time in the North American market.
Although the hybrid CR-V has been on sale in the United States since 2019, Canadians had to pay more to get their hands on one at first because of high production costs on the international level.
The 2023 CR-V Hybrid drivetrain is an updated version of the one in the Honda Accord Hybrid. A pair of electric motors installed on the front axle are paired with a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine.
The front wheels are driven by one electric motor while the other functions as a generator; the gas engine may supply energy to either the generator or the wheels directly, or it can replenish the battery, depending on current demands.
Due to Honda’s hybrid technology, the gas engine may be used less frequently, leading to improved fuel economy. The CR-V Hybrid is the most potent iteration of the CR-V, boasting 204 hp and 274 lb-ft of torque. No transmission is present either. The front wheels are driven by an electric motor, which receives its power from the generator, which is capable of variable output.
The Canadian market for the 2023 CR-V will provide a choice between two engine options. The 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque will return as the ICE powertrain, but some components have been altered to increase fuel economy.
It is intended to have improved fuel economy over the 2022 model and be competitive with vehicles in the same market class.
